Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript content represents an original scientific contribution. The manuscript has not been published previously nor is it under consideration for publication in another journal.
  • No previously published material (figures, schemes, tables, or any extract of a text), including self-plagiarism, is reproduced in the manuscript. If this is not the case, I will provide proof that I have obtained the necessary copyright permissions.
  • All the funding information (institutional, private, and/or corporate financial support) for the research is reported in the manuscript.
  • No generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used to prepare this manuscript.
  • All authors have read and approved the manuscript, and each has contributed significantly to its creation.
  • I have read and prepared the manuscript according to the Instructions for Authors. The manuscript will be submitted as a single text file using the journal's Microsoft Word template.

Author Guidelines

Carpathian Journal of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CJEES) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal that publishes original scientific research on: geology, geography, environmental sciences, environmental pollution and protection, environmental biodegradation, climate change, conservation of protected areas, soil degradation, water quality and resources. CJEES is published twice a year by the Carpathian Association of Environment and Earth Sciences.

Most of the manuscripts that are published by the CJEES are research articles; however, reviews are also considered.

Articles that do not comply with the Instructions for Authors and are not aligned with the journal's topics will be rejected by the Editorial Board. An author (or team of authors) may only publish one article per journal issue.

Manuscripts for CJEES should be submitted online. The submitting author, who is generally the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during the submission and peer review process. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors have been included in the author list and that they have all read and approved the submitted version of the manuscript. To submit your manuscript, register and log in to the submission website.

This journal charges a minimum fee of 50 EUR (article publishing charge) for all accepted manuscripts to cover the costs associated with publication. Please note that CJEES has an additional fee policy for manuscripts containing images as follows:

  • For all color figures, the additional cost is 50 EUR per page.
  • For black and white (or grayscale) figures, including photographs, illustrations, bar graphs, pie charts, flowchart diagrams, maps, infographics, the additional cost is 50 EUR per page.
  • For black and white (or grayscale) figures featuring simple line graphs or scatter plots, there is no additional fee.

These fees remain the same regardless of the area covered on the page, so we suggest grouping color figures on the same page whenever possible to reduce costs. All these costs will be covered by the authors if the manuscript is accepted for publication.

Research and Publication Ethics

Simultaneous submission of manuscripts to more than one journal is not tolerated. The submitted manuscript must not have been published previously, nor should it be under consideration for publication in another journal.

Your manuscript should not contain any information that has already been published. If it does, authors must obtain permission to reproduce any published material (figures, schemes, tables, or any extracts of text), including self-plagiarism, that does not fall into the public domain or for which they do not hold the copyright. Permission should be requested by the authors from the copyright holder. If you have obtained permission, please upload related files together with the manuscript file.

Plagiarism, data fabrication and image manipulation are not acceptable. All CJEES submissions are checked for plagiarism using professional software. If plagiarism is detected during the peer review process, the manuscript will be rejected.

It is a requirement when submitting to declare if any authors have used generative AI or AI-assisted technological methods to prepare the manuscript paper.

All authors must read and approve the manuscript. All authors will receive a notification email from the editorial office once the manuscript is submitted. The journal editorial office reserves the right to contact all authors to confirm it in case of any doubt on potential ethical issues.

All the funding information (institutional, private, and/or corporate financial support) for the research must be reported in the manuscript.

Manuscript Preparation

The contribution should be written in English. Authors are encouraged to use the journal’s Microsoft Word template to prepare their manuscript.

The text of the abstract will be preceded by the word “Abstract:” in bold. After the abstract, two empty rows, each in font size 10, are required.

The abstract should be an objective representation of the article and must include clear results of the research and the conclusions drawn. It should be a fully self-contained description of the paper. The reader should not feel the need to browse through the article for explanations of vague statements. The abstract should summarize the paper in a way that makes sense on its own.

The list of keywords must contain between 5 and 10 words and should be written in Times New Roman font, size 10. It must be justified and have left and right indents of 1 cm. After the keywords list, two empty rows, each in font size 11, should appear.

The section titles within the article must be written in capital letters, using Times New Roman, font size 11, and should begin with a 1 cm indent. They must be numbered with Arabic numerals. After each title, there should be an empty row, font size 11. Additionally, there should be an empty row before chapters 2 and 3, as well as before the subchapters.

Subtitles must be formatted in Times New Roman, font size 11 in bold, and numbered using two digits, for example, 2.5. Following each subtitle, there should be an empty row that is font size 11. If sub-subtitles are required, they should also be in Times New Roman but formatted in bold and italic. Sub-subtitles must be numbered with three digits, for instance, 2.5.3., and no empty row should follow them.

The text should consist of paragraphs, with a first line indentation of 1 cm and justified alignment. Use single line spacing in Times New Roman, font size 11. An empty row with font size 11, should be included between the last paragraph and the following title.

Equations

Mathematical equations must be centered on the page, using Times New Roman, font size 11, and numbered with Arabic numerals (1). There should be an empty row, font size 4, before and after each equation.

Figures and tables

All figures and tables should be inserted after their first citation within the main text. References to the figures within the text should use the format “Figure 1” in parentheses, or simply include the word “Figure” followed by the corresponding number within the sentence structure. The captions for the figures must be written in font size 10, for example, “Figure 1. The map of the studied area” and should appear below the figure.

The width of the figures must be 8 cm to fit within the column width, or 16 cm, in which case they will occupy the full width of the printable area of the page.

All figures must have strong contrast. Black and white figures should contain only black lines. The embedded text and legends must remain in Times New Roman, font size 10, after the figures are inserted into the manuscript. Grayscale figures will only be accepted if they are very clear. Color figures are also welcome.

Please note that along with the basic article publishing charge, CJEES has an additional fee policy for manuscripts containing images as follows:

The tables will be included in the text and numbered with Arabic numbers. The table captions and body text must be written in Times New Roman, font size 10. The width of the tables must be 8 cm to fit within the column width, or 16 cm, in which case they will occupy the full width of the printable area of the page. References to the tables within the text should use the format “Table 1” in parentheses, or simply include the word “Table” followed by the corresponding number within the sentence structure.

References

The citations style should be as follows:

  • Single author: (Smith, 2024)
  • Two authors: (Smith & Jones, 2023)
  • Three or more authors: (Smith et al., 2020)

Examples of using citations: "...as demonstrated (Smith, 2020a, 2020b; Smith & Jones, 2024)." or "...as demonstrated (Jones, 2019; Davis et al., 2020). Taylor et al. (2023) have recently shown…".

Citations of websites, research reports, unpublished theses and materials are not recommended.

The reference list must appear at the end of the manuscript and should be formatted in two columns with a 0.5 cm space between them. The subtitle “REFERENCES“ must be written in Times New Roman, font size 10, and in bold. Each reference should be single-spaced, justified, and also written in Times New Roman, font size 10, with a hanging indentation by 1 cm. The authors' names should be bold, the article titles in italics, and the remaining information in normal font. For example:
